Meet Maddie.

Professional doodler. Pixel magician. Design thinking architect.

Originally hailing from Dallas, Texas, Maddie received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Mississippi State University with a minor in Fine Arts in 2018. She went on to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago where she earned a Master of Science in Biomedical Visualization in 2020. While there, Maddie specialized in cellular and molecular illustration and animation, focusing on using preproduction tools to improve comprehension of complex scientific mechanisms. Since then, Maddie has continued to share her passion for visual information architecture through mentorship, presentations, and teaching at every opportunity she can.

Maddie has worked with many academic institutions such as Vanderbilt University and Northwestern University, to create stunning illustrations and figures. She has published multiple editorial covers in journals such as Nature Communications, Angewandte Chemie, Chemical Science, and JACS. She currently utilizes her sci-art expertise as a Medical Illustrator at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where she collaborates with various teams across the institution to illuminate oncology and biotechnology endeavors with elegant and succinct visuals.

When she isn’t in the studio, you can find Maddie excitedly planning social outings with her friends or running circles around the large lake near her house. She also enjoys drinking copious amounts of coffee while watching movies with her husband and cat.
